DRAW Auction Held at Route 66 Raceway
Mother Nature might have put a damper on Saturday’s qualifying session but she did not stop the Annual DRAW Auction. When the race was called for the day, fans and racers crowded into the auction tent to get out of the rain and hopefully take home a keepsake.
Auctioneers Bob Frey and Alan Reinhart offered die casts, pictures, collector cards, helmets, jackets, driver uniforms, team shirts, paintings and many other items up for bid. Ken Black, owner of the 2004 World Champion Pro Stock Car driven by Greg Anderson, was the high bidder for the famous Champion’s Quilt made by Louise McClelland. There was heated bidding between Clay Millican and Doug Herbert for NHRA Starter Rick Stewart’s straw hat. Shirley Muldowney donated a leather jacket with a lamb’s wool collar, which was a popular item with the ladies. As a result of the auction, more than $30,000.00 has been added to the DRAW fund which helps individuals injured in a racing accident at a track.
